In the rare case when it’s not the battery, there are other common trouble spots that are likely responsible for the issue. Whether it’s your car battery or something else, it’s imperative that you have the problem diagnosed and fixed as quickly as possible. When your lights aren’t working properly, you may become a hazard to other drivers.

Because the battery is the easiest component to replace, this is where a mechanic will look first. While there are cases caused due to a dying battery, there are other culprits to consider.

If the vehicle battery is not the cause of your flickering car lights, it may be a failing bulb. Dead bulbs are an easy and quick fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new LED bulbs.
If it is a bad fuse, you might be looking at a more significant issue than you had originally anticipated. A fuse fails when there is too much electricity runs through it. For example, if your anti-lock brakes are connected to a 10amp fuse, and the fuse gets more than 10amps of electrical current, the fuse would fail. In this situation, your anti-lock brakes could fail due to the blown fuse. If there is a fuse that regularly fails, bring your vehicle in and we will thoroughly diagnose the bigger, potentially more dangerous issue.
Lights flickering on the dash may also be signs that the alternator is going bad. Consider this, you use battery power to start your car, but to keep your vehicle running, the power comes from your alternator. If you drive an older vehicle with halogen headlights, you may notice them get dimmer with a dying alternator. For newer cars with LED or HID lighting, they may flicker or stop working altogether.
A dying light switch, whether it’s the headlight switch knob or an interior light dimmer, also needs to be checked out if you have flickering car lights. In some rare situations, just replacing a worn switch might solve the issue, especially in older cars or vehicles with excessive mileage. If your car is newer, it could be a sign of a more serious issue with the electrical system.
